Acupuncture has proven very effective for relief of acute injured and chronic pain relating to all joints and muscles in the body. Our musculoskeletal system is a dynamic entity and pain symptoms should not be observed and treated merely at the local area. Conditions need to be assessed holistically to locate the source of pain and devise a treatment plan that will not only relieve the pain but prevent recurrence and lead to longevity of the muscles for physical activity, whether for routine movement or athletic performance.
There are various causes for pain and symptoms vary from person to person. Some types of pain are solely muscle-related while others involve nerve pain that may or may not radiate to other areas from the back. In all of these cases, the muscles of the entire body must be assessed in order to treat and prevent pain effectively. While pain may present locally, muscle tension and structural and functional abnormalities of distal areas of the body will contribute to pain symptoms.
We will work to provide a treatment plan that strengthens weaker muscle groups while simultaneously relaxing muscles that are tight and overworking. The best results are seen when treated in combination with our Pilates program, as we try to see the muscles in action while in movement to prevent further or new injuries from happening as patients recover or try to regain strength and mobility.
Commonly seen pain conditions:
- neck and shoulder pain
- low back pain or sciatica
- hip pain
- sports injuries such as ankle or knee pain from impact, golfer’s or tennis elbow, etc.
